Brief Biography: Pergolesi achieved so much in his 26 years and is considered one of the most important composers of comic opera. In 1752 his buffa intermezzo The Servant Mistress caused a quarrel between serious opera followers and the supporters of the new comic operas who heralded Pergolesi throughout the two year quarrel. Pergolesi suffered from ill-health throughout his life and died young from tuberculosis.
